The official Audioguide to the Jugendburg Ludwigstein! From 1920 Ludwigstein became the spiritual centre for many members of the Wandervögel and Pfadfinder groups, and for the association of German youth movement groups in general. Today it is an educational facility, a memorial and a conference centre. Let us take you on a journey through 600 years of the castle’s history.
Ludwigstein Castle was renovated and expanded in 1920 by members of the Wandervögel youth movement into a hostel and meeting site, and a memorial to the movement’s members who had died in WWI.
The archive housed here of the German youth movement, the public archive and a branch office of the Hessen State Archive contains one-of-a-kind collections from the Wandervogel movement along with important artists and educators, and is recognised as one of Germany’s national archive treasures. The Jugendbildungsstätte Ludwigstein is an educational centre offering a wide range of courses and organising events for everything related to youth movement, democracy, honorary office, prevention and handcraft.
Ludwigstein is a recognised cultural memorial and the spiritual centre of many Wandervogel, Scouting and other youth-related groups.
Step through the castle gate into a somewhat different world: the fascinating world of the youth movement.
